If you are facing issues with Ring Doorbell not detecting motions after the update, then there are a few things you need to check in the first place.
You should update the Ring app to the latest version. Your Ring Doorbell connected to the WiFi network must be stable and reliable.
For optimal motion detection, correct height and angle are important, ensure the Ring doorbell placement is accurate without being blocked by any obstructions.
Make sure, the disarmed mode is not enabled for your Ring Doorbell. You can check it in the Ring app and further disable it if it is enabled.
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap “menu” at the upper left.
- Tap “Settings” and then “Modes”.
- Tap the “Home” or “Away” mode.
Check if the motion alerts are activated on your Ring doorbell, if not, then enable it.
Enable Motion Alerts
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap “menu” at the upper left.
- Tap “Devices” and then select “Ring Doorbell”.
- Tap the “Motion settings” and then “Smart alerts”.
- Now, “enable the feature”.

Adjust Motion Sensitivity

Change the Motion Frequency
The motion detection frequency might not be set to as desired. For example, if you want the Ring doorbell to detect the motions frequently, then you should set the motion detection frequency to “Frequent”.
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap “menu” at the upper left.
- Tap “Devices” and then select “Ring Doorbell”.
- Tap the “Motion settings” and then “Advanced settings”.
- Now, select the “Frequent” option.
Check Motion Detection Type
You might also face motion detection issues if the motion detection type is set to “People only mode”. This will specifically target Human activity to detect and non-human objects such as cars and animals will be avoided.
Therefore, you need to disable the “People only mode” to avoid any motion detection issues.
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap “menu” at the upper left.
- Tap “Devices” and then select “Ring Doorbell”.
- Tap the “Motion settings” and disable “People only mode”.
Add New Motion Zones
If you have already set the customized motion zones, then remove all of them and create new zones. In case, you have no customized motion zones set, then add some zones and adjust the size accordingly in which the Ring Doorbell will look for motions.
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap “menu” at the upper left.
- Tap “Devices” and then select “Ring Doorbell”.
- Tap the “Motion settings” and then “Motion Zones”.
- Now, remove the all old zones and create new zones by tapping “Add Zones”.
- Further, Adjust the size of the zones accordingly and then follow the on-screen instructions to add the customized zone.
Reboot your RingDool Bell
Sometimes, there could be minor software glitches that can impact your device resulting in motion detection issues. Opting for a restart method can get you out of this hell in a minute or two.
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap “menu” at the upper left.
- Tap “Devices” and then select “Ring Doorbell”.
- Tap “Device Health” and then tap “Restart Device”.
- Continue, tapping the “Restart” option to restart your device.
- Now, wait until your device restarts and then boot up again.
Reset your RingDoor bell
Reset can fix any kind of system-level issue when you are unable to get over the issue with other fixes.
- First of all, remove the RingDoor bell from its bracket.
- Locate the Reset “Orange” button located at the back of the Ring Doorbell for 15 seconds.
- Release the button, once the Ring light starts flashing pointing towards the resetting process.
- Once, the light turns off that’s it, your RingDoor bell is reset.
Now, you will need to setup your RingDoor bell from the scratch. Open the Ring app and tap “Set up a device->Doorbells” and further follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup process.
