Honeywell smart thermostats allows you set or change your temperature adjustments from your phone. But, what happens if it is not able to connect to WiFi?
If you are experiencing connectivity issue due to an IP address error on your Honeywell thermostat, here’s how to fix it easily:
Honeywell Thermostat Unable to Obtain IP Address
If you get an error message that says “no IP address,” or “unable to obtain IP address”, then unplug your Honeywell thermostat, plug it back and then restart your Wifi router. Once your router restarts, your Honeywell thermostat will be hopefully back to working condition.
Also make sure you are using right Honeywell app, 2.4 GHz WiFi band and have stable internet.
1. Make Sure You’re using the Right App
Honeywell has two apps named Honeywell Home and Total Connect Comfort, and which one you have to use depends on your thermostat model.
If you have Honeywell T-Series or Round Smart Thermostat model, then you must use Honeywell Home App. For other latest models such as Prestige and WiFi Focus Pro, you need to use Total Connect Comfort App.
2. Make Sure you Connecting the Thermostat to 2.4 GHz WiFi Band
Honeywell thermostats are only compatible with 2.4GHz band.
Since most of the WiFi routers nowadays comes with two network bands i.e. 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, it is possible that by default, your router is using 5 GHz band.
To fix this, open your router settings and set 2.4 GHz band. Once done, make sure your mobile and thermostat both are connected to the same 2.4 GHz band.
3. Check your Internet Connectivity
It is possible that this IP address issue is not due to the thermostat settings but due to router.
I would recommend to first confirm if the internet is properly working by connecting any other device to it. If internet is not working on that device as well, then it means the problems lies with your ISP or router.
Most of the abnormal router issues can be simply solved by restarting it. If this does not help, try contacting your ISP support.
Conclusion
Without proper internet connectivity, you won’t be able to enjoy smart features on Honeywell thermostat. If you get ‘no IP address’ error when you try to connect it with your home Wifi, then try these fixes:
- Restart your thermostat by unplugging it for half a minute, and connecting it again.
- Use the right the app and 2.4 GHz Wifi band.
- Restart your internet router.
